What Pro Players Edition actually means
Kookaburra make each of their shapes in several grades, and Pro Players Edition sits at the top: unbleached English willow specially selected for performance, cut to the professional shape for that range. It is the grade, not the range — Pro Players Edition tells you how good the willow is, the range name tells you what the blade is shaped like.
Unbleached willow, grains and natural marks
Kookaburra leave Players quality clefts unbleached, so you see the wood as it really is. Expect at least six fairly straight grains on the face, a clean playing area, and possibly red wood along an edge or the odd knot or speck. Those are cosmetic — Kookaburra grade for performance before appearance, which is why a top-grade cleft can still carry them.
Individual bat selection
Grain count, colour and natural markings vary bat to bat. Crystal Sports photographs every available Kookaburra Pro Players Edition, so what you see in the selector is the bat that gets dispatched. Short Handle is stocked as standard, Harrow and Long Blade to order.
KPP and knocking in
Pro Players Edition bats arrive with the Kookaburra Pre-Prepared finish, so the blade has already been machine knocked at the factory. Kookaburra and Crystal Sports both recommend further knocking around the edges and toe before hard-ball use. Our Bat Preparation service covers linseed oil, 24 hours drying, 12,000 machine knocks, a scuff sheet and edge tape, and a fitted toe guard can be added too.
