Overview

Hard tennis cricket — sometimes called heavy tennis cricket — is a format that uses a heavier ball than tape ball or windball. The Nivia hard tennis cricket ball is specifically made for this — denser and heavier than a standard tennis ball, giving bowlers more pace and batters a much more realistic hitting experience than a light tape ball.

Unlike tape ball, you don’t wrap these in tape — they’re used as they come. Because of the extra weight, you need a bat that can handle it. We recommend our Bandook cricket bats for hard tennis cricket — reinforced construction, built specifically for this format. Fiber bats or coconut willow bats are not suitable for heavy tennis balls and can crack or split under regular use.

FAQs

Tape ball cricket uses a light tennis ball wrapped in PVC tape. Hard tennis cricket uses a heavier ball — like the Nivia — that is used as-is, without any tape. The heavier ball gives more pace and a more realistic hitting feel, but requires a reinforced bat. Most tape ball bats are not suitable for hard tennis cricket.
We strongly recommend our Bandook cricket bats for hard tennis cricket. They’re built with reinforced construction specifically for this format. Fiber bats and coconut willow bats are not suitable — the extra weight of the hard tennis ball can crack or split them with regular use.
No — these are used straight from the pack. Unlike tape ball cricket, hard tennis cricket uses the ball as-is. The Nivia ball is already heavier and denser than a standard or tape ball.
The red and green Nivia balls are the same specification — the colour difference is purely aesthetic. Red is the traditional cricket ball colour and tends to be the more popular choice. Green is also available when in stock.
